Introduction
The Department of Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS) is responsible for policy formulation and analysis, socio-economic research, development and coordination of strategies for programme/project implementation, as well as building a reliable data bank and management information system for the Ministry.
Functions
The Functions of the Department include the following:
- Responsibility for policy initiation and coordination;
- Coordinating Monitoring and Evaluation of Projects and Programmes of the Ministry;
- Serving as Secretariat of the National Council on Regional Development;
- Supervision and Coordination of the Ministry’s Development Plan;
- Handling of all Inter-Governmental Relation Matters;
- Handling Community Relation Matters;
- Relating with Development Partners (World Bank, UNDP, PIND, etc.) on all development matters;
- Conducting Policy/Sectoral research;
- Custodian of the Ministry’s Databank and Information and Communication Technology;
- Preparation and Publication of Digest of Statistics on the Ministry’s activities;
- Preparing policy briefs for the Ministry;
- Preparation and publication of quarterly, annual and other periodic reports for the Ministry;
- Processing Federal Executive Council Memorandum for the Ministry;
- Coordinating Handing Over Notes of Hon. Ministers and Permanent Secretary;
- Secretariat of the Ministry’s Policy and Planning Committee;
- Liaising with National Planning Commission on all Policy and Planning matters;
- Coordinating SDGs programmes for the Ministry;
- Liaising with other MDAs and Non-Governmental Organizations on Policy matters;
- Covers Ministerial Meetings and Permanent Secretary’s Meetings;
- Report, document and publish all monitoring and evaluation activities in the Ministry;
- Coordination and preparation of Ministerial Mandates, achievements of the Ministry amongst other Reports;
- Providing ICT Support Services: Servicing and maintenance of all ICT equipment, Champions Web Portal System as well as Liaising with Galaxy Backbone Limited, on matter of ICT;
- Administration of Government Mailing (Gov.mail) System and Administration of Ministry’s Website www.regionaldev.gov.ng and Socio-Economic Data Bank; and
- Any other matters that may be assigned by the Permanent Secretary or Ministers.
- The Department is the Secretariat for the Presidential Monitoring Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (PMC-NDDC), which is responsible for monitoring the management of funds and implementation of Projects, as well as periodically reporting on operational records of the Commission.
Structure
The Department is structured into Four Divisions and Two Units, these are:
- Policy and Planning (P&P) Division;
- Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Division;
- Research and Documentation (R&D) Division;
- Inter-Governmental Relations (IGR) Division;
- Library Unit; and
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Unit.
